The word Navratri has meaning in itself as Nav means “nine” and ratri means “Pooja”.People celebrate Navratri because of commendable victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura. On this day various forms of Maa Durga are being worshipped with great zeal and enthusiasm, but the most important and prominent form of Maa Durga that are being worshipped are

A) Maa Durga.

B) Maa Laxmi

C) Maa Saraswati.

These three goddess had spent three nights each to destroy the evilness on the earth. People keep fasts for all nine days because every day of Navratri holds the special importance in one’s life. The first three days, Maa Durga is being worshipped to destroy all the negativity that the person is being holding. On the next three days Maa Laxmi is being worshipped for the next three days to get bestowed with all her blessings of inexhaustible wealth. Last three days of Navratri is devoted for Maa Saraswati to get bestowed with the good knowledge.

How to do Navratri Pooja

Pooja is performed on every nine days of Navratri in the morning.

Navratri Pooja is very simple to do at home. Dry cow dung and Kapoor is being burnt and is used to do Pooja and after the completion of Pooja the smoke of the residue is being moved to all the rooms of the house.

 On the last two days small girls are being worshipped by making them to eat “Halwa”, “Puri”, “Chana” etc. and when they are completed with their food their feet are being touched and the gifts or money are given to those girls.

Significance of Navratri Pooja

Navratri Pooja has great significance in the life of individual’s.

Small girls are being worshipped because they are considered to be the shadow of Goddess Maa Durga on eighth or ninth day. Nine girls are being called at home to worship nine forms of Maa Durga.

The girls of smaller age are being worshipped as they are considered to be the most purest and innocent among all the women. The feet of girls are washed as it is the symbol of respect to Goddess and is then made to sit on pedestal.
