Hartalika Teej Pooja Importance:

With the purpose of worshipping Goddess Parvati or Goddess Gauri, an important ritual that is perdformed is Hartalika Teej Pooja. In the Bhadra month, on the first fortnight’s third day, this teej is celebrated by the women. This pooja is kept by the married women for their husband’s well-being and for getting blesses with Lord Shiva like good husband, this pooja is kept by the unmarried girls.

Hartalika Teej Pooja Procedure:

On the occasion of Hartalika Teej, early in the morning, the women get up and wear new jewelry and saris and even without taking single drop of water, they visit temple. After coming back from the temple, they seek the blessings of their husband by touching their feet. They again dress in the bride’s outfit after taking bath before the sunset. In the pooja room, the idols of Shiva and Parvati are placed after getting fully clad and besides their idols, Gaur is placed. With the clay and sand combination also, the Gaur could be made. In order to call Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in the house, meditation is done after the arrangement of all the Puja items. Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Gaur are offered with flowers, bilva patra and turmeric powder coated rice. Gaur and Parvati are offered with sweets, orange sindoor, fruits etc and diyas are lit before them. To get the blessings of Goddess Parvati, Vrat Katha is read at the end and on that day, Parsad is not offered to anyone. For doing pooja on the next day, the devotees again wale up early and wear new clothes after taking bath and the Visajan Mantra, Shenti Mantra and Shama Mantra are recited by them. Fast is broken after doing all the pooja by eating the overnight soaked chana.

The Hartalika Teej Pooja is done for the well-being and good health of husbands and this is the reason why in a woman’s life, it holds high importance. The significance of Hartalika Teej is how her loved was shown to Lord Shiva by Goddess Parvati. Everyone was started to be disregarded by Lord Shiva after the death of Sati and the love that Parvati was having for him was also not noticed by him. Lord Shiva was ignoring Goddess Parvati and therefore to seek his attention, Parvati started observing fasts. For 108 times, Goddess Parvati took rebirth for the affection and love that she has for Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva accepted Parvati as his wife as a results of this dedication of her. This is the reason why Hartalika teej is celebrated by the women in a very sacred manner so as to get their husband’s love.

 “Om Umayee Parvatayee Jagdayee Jagatprathisthayee Shantirupayee Shivayee Brahma Rupniyee”
