Maha Shivratri Muhurat date in 2017 year

As per the prediction by expert astrologer, the Maha Shivratri will be occurring on 24 February 2017. The fourteenth day of Magha (Hindu month) will observe as a Shivratri night. Thus adjust your time to perform all rituals and customs to please Lord Shiva.

All devotees of Shiva observe the fast on the previous day of MahaShivrarti night. It can occur on Trayodashi or Chaturdarshi tithi (date) as per the Hindu calendar. But the main thing is that shivratri night should be Chaturdarshi.

As per the Pt. Lokesh Jagirdar, the Shivratri vrat (fast) start on the day before to Shivratri. On this vrat day, devotees eat only one time during whole day and then perform all the puja in night of chaturdarshi.

In 2017 year on Maha Shivratri , people who observe fast may take food once on the 24th  day of February as Chaturdarshi will begin.  Yet, it is advised to devotees not break their fast during whole night.

Maha Shivaratri Legend

 

Maha Shivaratri is connected with several legends by devotees. Therefore, one of the main legends is considered one who churning of Milk Ocean. So, we are telling you here the most popular legend of this auspicious day to aid you finish your 2017 Maha Shivraratri fast.

The ‘Samundra Manthan’ or ‘churning of Milk Ocean’ was a   detailed method how to bring out Amrit( the elixir of immortality)  from the ocean of milk. Mount Meru also known as mount Mandarachala, in churning of the milk ocean( Samundra Manthan), which was used as pole for churning and the churning  rope work  was done by the king of Serpents, which is namely s Vasuki.  At the time of churning ( manthan) therefore, demons wanted front side of snake to hold and other side, God Vishnu wanted the demigode the snake’s tail side to hold. Hence, demons got the snake poisoned by the fumes which came out from the mouth of snake. But they continue, pulled the body of snake in the back and on the forth motion. Therefore, this motion came up due to the rotation of mount meru and finally, the Manthan of Milk Ocean took place. And afterward, Lord Vishnu came up in turtle avtar and he taking all up his weight on his back and saved from getting drowned into the sea.

 

Through this manthan process lots of things come out from the ocean and among these one was lethal poison. The poison was very powerful that it could actually dirty the whole ocean, with this demon and gods got frightened. To save the world, this poison is consumed by Lord Shiva and Lord Shiva kept this poison in his throat, and this is the reason of his blue neck colour because of poison his neck turned in color blue. That’s why he is known as Neelkantha. At the time of Samundra Manthan whole process, amrit is one of the main things which came out from Milk Ocean, and everyone desired for this thing.
