How to do Performing Diwali Laxmi Puja at home

Performing Deepavali Puja

Diwali or Deepavali is the occasion where Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped. She is believed to be the Goddess of prosperity and success and of course wealth. That is why; it is during this time that she is welcomed with a thorough worshipping ritual so that she stays in every family, house, office etc. The people belonging to the commercial class and also the married couples and household women worship her praying that prosperity stays in her family. On the other hand, the tantrics worship Goddess Lakshmi to gain special powers for attainment and also to perform Tantric acts during night. In the year 2014, the Diwali Pujan will be done on 23rd October.

Materials needed for Puja

There are quite some important materials that are needed to perform this puja. The first and foremost ones are the idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi in a sitting position. The other materials are Roli, Kesar, betel-leaves, rice, betel-nut, flowers, fruits, Kheer, Sindoor, milk, Batashe, coins, honey and cloves. Not only these but also the sweets, Ganga Jal, dry fruits, incense sticks, curd and 11 lamps are needed. And other things are of course Kalava(red thread), coconut and a copper urn.

How to perform Diwali Puja

Performing the Diwali puja is not a very simple task. First you have to establish the Navgreh Yantra on a plate. You can also place it on the clean ground. Then draw the Navgreh. Then a copper urn has to be filled with Ganga Jal, honey, curd, betel nut, cloves and coins and then covered with a red cloth. Then a dried coconut has to be tied with the Kalawa and then placed on the urn.

at the place where you have established the Navgreh Yantra has to be decorated with silver or gold coins, money, idol of Goddess Lakshmi and lord Ganesha, idol of Brahma and Laxmi made with mud, a picture of lord Mahesh. Considering the metal idols as Gods and Goddesses, they are bathed with curd, milk and Ganga Jal. Then the idols are decorated with Akshat and Sindoor and flowers. A Panchmukhi lamp is lit up on the right side with ghee or til oil.

Method of Lakshmi Pujan

Take flower, Akshat, waterand some money in your hand. At first, worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri. Then you have to chant the mantra. If you are doing puja for your Mahi Khata, then draw a swastika with sandalwood and Kesar, on the new Mahi and Khata books. Keep lotus bundle, 5 pieces of turmeric, Akshat, coriander grass and donation in one bag. Then chant 108 times:

याकुन्देन्दुतुषारहारधवलायाशुभ्रवस्त्रावृता,
यावीणावरदण्डण्डितकरायाश्वेतपद्मासना।,
याब्रह्माच्युतशंकरप्रभृतिभिर्देवै: सदावन्दिता,
सामांपातुसरस्वतीभगवतीनि:शेषजाड्यापहा।।

The Mahi- Kahata is worshipped with flowers, incense sticks, lamps, essance, Navedya in later times. However, it does not end here; you will have to worship Kuber during Nishit Kal and Pradosh Kal with these mantras:

आवाहयामिदेवत्वामिहायाहिकृपांकुरु।
कोशंवद्र्धयनित्यंत्वंपरिरक्षसुरेश्वर।।
